Hello. I told you I'd be back. Now remember, this is more of an overview type of thing. I'm not going into a deep discussion of why things happen so don't come at me because I don't do that.
Okay, as the title implies, the movie I wanted to tell you a little bit about is called Touch the Top of the World. It stars Peter Facinelli who, you may or may not know, plays Dr. Carlisle Cullen in the hit Twilight series.
Peter plays Erik Weihenmayer, a man who has been blind since he was around 12 or 13. He had a rare eye disorder that caused him to begin losing his sight at a very early age. When Erik was in High School he began rock climbing. It was something his class did as a learning excersize. It became a hobby and a slight obsession for him. Once graduating college he became a teacher. He was the first blind person the school had hired. Long story short, Erik lived his life as close to normal as he possibly could. Now, the really cool thing about Erik was the climbing thing. He didn't just climb inside on one ot those things with rigs and a mat at the bottom. He climbed mountains folks. Yes I mean REAL mountains. He and some friends of his climbed mountains like Mt. McKinley and Kilimanjaro. After that, he was approached by a man who was putting together a team to climb Mt. Everest. That's right, the tallest Mountain in the world. Again, long story short, Erik became the first blind man to make it to the summit of Everest and, as of filming in 2006 he is the only blind person to do so. I haven't done research to see if anyone has done it since then or anything so it could have changed.
His story is very inspiring. The movie takes you through everything leading up to and during the climb. Seeing everything he did is simply amazing. Peter does a fantastic job portraying him and the movie as a whole comes together perfectly. Check it out, even if you do so simply because you are a fan of Peter's (I confess that's why I saw it). It is worth it.
